Notable Brazilian Television Actor João Carlos Barroso Dies at Age 69

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Actor João Carlos Barroso died on Monday, August 12th, at the age of 69, due to cancer-related complications. The news was confirmed by friends of the artist on social media.

“It is with great sadness that I hear this news […] May God welcome him into his kingdom of light. My condolences to the family,” lamented actor Mario Cesar Nogueira.

João Carlos Barroso made his cinema debut in 1961 in “Pedro e Paulo”, alongside names such as Jardel Filho, Francisco Cuoco, and Jece Valadão. He had a TV career, starring in telenovelas (Brazilian soap operas) and TV series at Globo, including the comic series “Os Trapalhões” and “Zorra Total”.

Among his most famous characters are Tavico, in “Estúpido Cupido” (1976) and Toninho Jiló, in “Roque Santeiro” (1985). His most recent work on the screen was in 2016, in the soap opera “Sol Nascente”, in which he gave life to detective captain Mesquita.
