Shooting Leaves One Dead, Five Wounded in Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro State

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A shooting in Prainha, in Arraial do Cabo, in the Rio de Janeiro Lake District, left one man dead and five people wounded on Saturday afternoon, September 26th.

According to witnesses, a man came in shooting another man on the boardwalk. The victim ran to the beach and blended in with the beachgoers. Still according to witnesses, a third man shot the perpetrator of the first shots.

Beaches in the city have been open to bathers since August 6th.

According to the chief delegate of the 132nd Police Department, Patrícia de Paiva, the main line of investigation is that the crime was motivated by faction warfare.

“A man was attacked in Prainha. In addition to him, other people who were on the beach were shot by stray bullets. Our investigation teams were immediately deployed to the scene, identified witnesses to testify, searched for CCTV footage, and were in the hospital hearing the victims. The police inquiry was initiated to determine the perpetrator of the crime. The main line of investigation is that it was an attack by traffickers on a rival, from another criminal faction,” said the delegate.
