Investigations into Marielle Case Will Lead to New Arrests, Says Police Inspector

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Police inspector Antônio Ricardo Nunes said the goal is to find out if there was a principal and if so, the police will get to him or her.

“We continue working very hard, and the investigations continue,” he said. There is no doubt, he said, that the perpetrators of the crime were former police officers Ronnie Lessa and Élcio Queiroz, who have been detained.

The inspector said the murder investigation has split off into parallel investigations and that soon there will be arrests in connection with these other investigations. He has not clarified, however, whether these arrests have a direct bearing on the murder.

In response to the request for the federalization of investigations, submitted by the Office of the Prosecutor General, the inspector said that the people who, in some way, hindered the start of the investigations are already answering to Justice.

The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Wilson Witzel, also disagreed with the request of the former prosecutor general, Raquel Dodge, who left office yesterday, September 17th.

“I want to express my complete disagreement with the proposed federalization,” he said, during a meeting of homicide delegates from across the country.
