Maduro Claims to Have New Cooperation Map With Russia

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, returned today to Caracas from an official trip to Russia, in which a new map for economic development cooperation was signed, announced the head of state.

“We have reached an agreement for a new cooperation map that emphasizes economic and industrial development, the transfer of technology and the influx of new investments to embark on a phase of permanent growth and recovery,” said Nicolás Maduro.

The Venezuelan president spoke on arrival at the Simón Bolívar de Maiquetía International Airport (the country’s main airport), which was broadcast live and on the country’s radio and television stations.

According to the head of state, the visit to Russia was a success and made it possible to assess and strengthen the bilateral cooperation agreements between Caracas and Moscow.

“We have a joint high-level cooperation committee which has organized the entire trade, health, energy, financial, and investment map,” he said.

Nicolás Maduro further stated that he and Moscow had discussed “new investments for Russian technology to carry out development projects in Venezuela, in different areas, from mining to agribusiness, and to make progress in all areas that Venezuela needs”.

According to Maduro, his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, reiterated his support for the Venezuelan government and both analyzed its troubles and realities in order to design plans for the future.

The Venezuelan head of state started a visit to Russia on Tuesday with the aim of strengthening relations and cooperation between Caracas and Moscow.

During the visit, according to the Venezuelan state television, he met with his counterpart Vladimir Putin who announced a contribution of approximately US$4 billion (R$16 billion) for projects in various areas, including energy, military-technical, spare parts replacement, technical assistance and maintenance of equipment purchased from Russia.
