Argentina’s Alberto Fernández Hopes for Single Digit Inflation Within Four Years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Tireless, Alberto Fernandez continued Friday’s campaign through the famous wine region of Mendoza to support his candidates in the province governed by the centrist Radical Civic Union party (UCR).

The Frente de Todos candidate criticized the lack of support for regional economies, said that Mauricio Macri “has destroyed the economy” and that “it will be very difficult to lower inflation”.

He insisted on deepening the relationship with Chile: "Argentina must maintain a bond of great proximity, brotherhood and commercial relationship with Chile. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting President Piñera, but I hope to meet him soon"

He also referred to the relationship with the media and their position against monopolies should he become president: “Any action tending to multiply voices is welcome, but there is no need for a media law because we have to trust the reflexive ability of our people”.

The candidate of the Frente de Todos set a date for his inflationary goal should he become president: “I would be very happy if, at the end of the fourth year, we finish with single digit inflation, but I know it is going to take a lot,” he said in a press conference with local media.

His first stop on his visit to Mendoza was La Abeja winery in San Rafael. “I know what viticulture represents for Mendoza and the national government’s disdain for this type of production is unforgivable,” he said regarding the wine industry’s situation.

He pledged to small producers and traders to create production conditions in the region so that they may flourish and curb the “great concentration of the economy at the expense of those regional economies”.

He discussed the need to build new bridges to the Pacific: “It is cruel to continue concentrating all trade in the port of Buenos Aires and I have been talking to the governors of the west. It’s a key issue”.

He insisted on deepening the relationship with Chile: “Argentina must maintain a bond of great proximity, brotherhood and commercial relationship with Chile. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting President Piñera, but I hope to meet him soon”.

The candidate for governor once again insisted on the need to have credit lines with reasonable interest rates for productive activity. “One thing we’re working on with our teams, very earnestly, is finding a way to introduce our products to the foreign market – especially winemaking – and how to get the cost structure to balance. We bury dollars and harvest pesos, say our producers, and of course, the balance never pays off”.
