Spain reopens to Brazilian travelers; allows entry with Coronavac, all other vaccines

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Spanish Consulate in Brazil on Monday (23) announced that vaccinated Brazilians will be allowed to travel to Spain. All vaccines applied in Brazil are accepted: Coronavac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Janssen, and no quarantine will be required. The measures are effective as of Tuesday, August 24.

According to information on the official website, vaccinated travelers will only be allowed to enter Spain with proof of vaccination 14 days after the second dose. Covid-19 tests may be performed at the airport, according to Spain’s health situation and local authorities’ decision.

To be accepted, Brazilians must obtain the digital certificate from the Brazilian Ministry of Health in the Spanish version.

All passengers will undergo a health check upon arrival at the airport, even if it is just a simple temperature reading. They will also be required to fill out a health check form, available at: http://www.spth.gob.es.

Once completed, the website should generate a QR Code, which will be presented both when boarding and upon arrival in Spain.

Forms accepted for entry into Spain

All passengers from Brazil over the age of 12 must have a valid health certificate to enter Spain, which may be one of the following: a vaccination certificate (as explained above) or a certificate of recovery from Covid-19.

Passengers who have had the disease must present a certificate of recovery provided over 11 days have passed since the first positive PCR test was performed. This certificate will be valid for 180 days thereafter. The certificate must be translated into Spanish.

Diagnostic test certificate:

Unvaccinated passengers who have not had Covid-19 must undergo a diagnostic test to enter Spain. The tests admitted will be:

1. Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), which detect the genetic material of the virus (e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP, NEAR, etc.). The sample must be collected no later than 72 hours before landing in Spain;

2. Rapid antigen detection tests (RAT), which detect the presence of virus antigens. The sample must be taken no more than 48 hours before landing in Spain.

This is the first time Spain reopens its borders to Brazil. In early July, the European country released the entry of vaccinated tourists from virtually every country in the world vaccinated against Covid-19, but Brazil and South Africa were left out due to the high number of cases arising from local variants of the coronavirus causing the disease.
