Covid-19: Countries accepting Brazilian tourists, with entry requirements

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With the spread of Covid-19 cases in Brazil, many countries have closed borders or imposed restrictions on the entry of Brazilian passengers. In recent months, the advance of vaccination has also led to a relaxation trend in some nations for Brazilian tourists.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) provides information on limitations set by governments regarding Brazilian travelers on its website. The survey is based on updates sent by embassies.

Below are the conditions of some countries, divided by continents, with respect to the entry of Brazilians.

AFRICA

In South Africa, travelers must provide an RT-PCR laboratory test for Covid-19 taken up to 72 hours before traveling, in addition to a signed electronic statement.

EUROPE

Germany classifies Brazil as a “variant zone.” Anyone who has been in countries in this group in the past 10 days must submit a negative test, irrespective of whether the person has been vaccinated. In general, a 14-day quarantine is required, which can be relaxed in the case of vaccines from brands recognized by the country.

France requires proof of completion of immunization with a vaccine authorized by the European authority (Pfizer, Comirnaty, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Vaxzevria, Covishield, Janssen), as well as a statement that the person has no Covid-19 symptoms.

AMERICAS

Part of the region’s countries have closed their borders with Brazil, such as Bolivia and Uruguay. Ecuador requires a PCR test performed at least 72 hours prior to travel.

In the case of Chile, an application must be submitted to the embassy. Tourists granted authorization must complete a 10-day quarantine period in a transit hotel, or at home if they are residents in the country. Colombia no longer has any restrictions on the entry of tourists, nor does it require a negative test.

A negative test for Covid-19 is required to enter the United States. In Canada, passenger entry is generally banned for optional or discretionary purposes, with some exceptions.

ASIA AND OCEANIA

China has set restrictions and numbers on international travel and where flights can land, in cities with passenger health checking capabilities. Only Chinese nationals and people with valid visas after March 2020 may enter the country. Anyone in these conditions is still required to comply with certain conditions, such as a PCR test 48 hours prior to travel at accredited laboratories.

To enter South Korea, a negative PCR test result is required up to 72 hours before departure. India is not authorizing visas. Brazilian passengers are required to fill out a form with a negative PCR test result within 72 hours before the flight, in addition to a new test upon arrival.

Australia only allows entry to citizens of the country, permanent residents, relatives of Australians or permanent residents, or anyone who left New Zealand and stayed in the country for at least 14 days.
