Covid-19: Brazil Passes 85,000 Deaths, Records Over 50,000 Daily Cases (July 24th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Yesterday Brazil saw its third consecutive day with over 50,000 new Covid-19 cases recorded in 24 hours. According to a survey by the media outlets consortium, there were 58,249 notifications from the state Secretariats between Thursday and Friday, bringing the total of novel coronavirus infections to 2,348,200.

The record for new cases was registered last Wednesday, July 22nd, when the states counted 65,339 diagnoses. On Thursday, another 58,080 cases were added.

The high level also figured in the Ministry of Health’s official data, which yesterday announced the confirmation of 55,891 new diagnoses of the disease, bringing to 2,343,366 the number of infections since the start of the pandemic in the country. There were 59,961 confirmations on Thursday.

The record in the government’s figures also occurred on Wednesday, when 67,860 cases were added. The data from the media outlet consortium also showed that the country has counted 1,178 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths from coronavirus infection has passed the 85,000 mark, totaling 85,385 victims.

Based on the consortium’s survey, nine Brazilian states recorded an increase in infections on Friday and only five recorded drops. Among Brazil’s regions, the Midwest, North, and South are accelerating, while the Northeast and Southeast are stable in terms of variation over the last 14 days.

Below is a list of the oscillations among the states:

  • Acceleration: Amapá, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Paraná, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Tocantins;
  • Stability: Acre, Bahia, Federal District, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Pará, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, Sergipe, and São Paulo;
  • Dropping: Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Norte.

The Ministry of Health also announced that it has added, 1,156 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours throughout Brazil. The total number of victims of the novel coronavirus in this account also passed the 85,000 mark, standing at exactly 85,238 deaths.

According to the Ministry, 655,847 patients are under follow-up, while other 1,592,281 cases have recovered from Covid-19.
