Covid-19: Brazil Counts 855 Deaths and 43,412 New Cases in 24 Hours (August 28th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health’s update released on Friday evening, August 28th, reported 855 deaths in the past 24 hours. As a result, the total of deaths by Covid-19 reached 119,504. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health’s panel recorded 118,649 deaths. There are currently 2,708 deaths under investigation.

According to the Ministry’s balance, the state Health Secretariats added 43,412 new Covid-19 cases to the statistics. As a result, the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic reached 3,804,803. On Thursday, the panel reported 3,761,391 cumulative cases.

Still according to the update, 708,503 people are under follow-up and another 2,976,796 have already recovered.

The states with the highest number of deaths were São Paulo (29,694), Rio de Janeiro (15,859), Ceará (8,376), Pernambuco (7,512), and Pará (6,106).

The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at 3.1 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 56.9. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1810.5.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths were São Paulo (29,694), Rio de Janeiro (15,859), Ceará (8,376), Pernambuco (7,512), and Pará (6,106).

The states with fewest deaths to date are Roraima (587), Acre (608), Tocantins (649), Amapá (657), and Mato Grosso do Sul (823).
