Brazil’s Economy Minister: “In a few months we will have full vaccine local production”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Economy Minister Paulo Guedes again assessed that the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is “tremendously fierce” and praised Brazilians who “fight to maintain the economy’s vital signs.” The Minister reiterated that the economy is rebounding as vaccination progresses.

“In a few months we will have full local production of the vaccine in Brazil and we are increasing imports of all sorts and of vaccines. Brazil has a double commitment – fighting the war in the health area and at the same time the effort of economic recovery, which is also a war-like effort,” he said.

Guedes further congratulated Brazilians for their “resilience and hope.” “It has been very difficult. We are all losing relatives and friends to this terrible pandemic. And our friends and relatives also losing income and jobs in this terrible fight. But there are indications that we are gradually recovering,” he added.

Federal tax and contribution collections totaled R$156.822 (US$29.6) billion in April, a record for the month.

The result represents a real increase (discounting inflation) of 45.22% compared to the same month in 2020, which was greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the deferment in the collection of some taxes.
