Brazil reports 18,999 new cases, 578 Covid deaths (July 26)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 18,999 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, along with 578 deaths from COVID-19, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

Brazil has registered more than 19.7 million cases since the pandemic began, while the official death toll has risen to 550,502, according to ministry data.

According to official data, the number of fatalities recorded today is the lowest since January 18, when 452 deaths from the virus were reported, while the number of Covid-19 cases reported today is only slightly higher than the 17,340 cases reported on January 3.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fifth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, and Argentina.

In terms of total deaths per million, Brazil ranks among the ten most affected nations, such as Peru, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, and other European countries.

The country has seen a reduction in pandemic numbers in recent weeks.
