Brazil has 1,324 Covid deaths and 108,732 new cases (July 23)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil reported 1,324 Covid deaths on Friday, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease in the country to 548,340, the Health Ministry said. The total number of cases in the country rose to 19,632,443.

It also reported 108,732 new coronavirus cases, the second-highest daily total since the pandemic began, surpassed only by the 115,228 infections on June 23.

Friday’s high number of new cases was driven by Rio Grande do Sul state, which alone reported 64,036 infections. The number of cases in this state has jumped due to a data backlog.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fourth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Colombia, Paraguay, and Argentina.

In terms of total deaths per million, Brazil ranks among the ten most affected nations, such as Peru, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, and other European countries.

The country has seen a reduction in pandemic numbers in recent weeks.
