Eduardo Bolsonaro Says Masks Won’t Be Mandatory in His Office

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Eduardo Bolsonaro wrote on his social media that he will hang in his Chamber of Deputies office a sign advising that wearing masks is not mandatory.

President Jair Bolsonaro‘s son wrote about the issue commenting on the note published by ‘Painel’ column on Wednesday, December 3rd and shared by state deputy Frederico D’Ávila.

The article showed that D’Ávila hung a poster with the words “in this office, the wearing of a mask is not mandatory” in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo.

The measure contravenes a São Paulo government decree that states that the wearing of masks is mandatory “in state public offices, by the population, by public officials, service providers, and private individuals.”

“Good idea, I will implement this in my office too. Everyone is free to decide whether or not to wear a mask,” wrote Eduardo Bolsonaro.

The São Paulo Legislative Assembly press office said, regarding D’Ávila’s case, that the offices are the exclusive responsibility of legislators and that in common areas and plenary sessions everyone must wear a mask.

D’Avila says it is his and his team’s private area, with their own rules, and that the Assembly is only open for scheduled appointments.

“I believe that Governor João Doria is more concerned with killing São Paulo’s economy for good, suffocating trade and raising taxes, than with mandatory masks in a deputy’s office,” he said.
