RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro used social media on Monday, November 2nd, to advocate the release of weapons. He wrote on Twitter: “Armed people will never be enslaved.”
The text is a reaction to a report published by Veja magazine saying that the Rio de Janeiro city councilor and son of the President, Carlos Bolsonaro, worked to bar the control of weapons and ammunition in the country. According to the publication, Carlos had attended official meetings to oppose the measure.
For Bolsonaro, “if Veja intended to negatively affect city councilor Carlos Bolsonaro, it ultimately shot itself in the foot,” he wrote.
The President also pointed out that “many have worked and still work to prevent disarmament along the same lines as other governments.”
