The Brazilian Music Award, an event born in 1987 to celebrate the country’s musical production, will be relaunched in 2023 after three years without the awards.
The ceremony will be on May 31 at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro.
The Award was created by José Maurício Machline, marketing manager at Sharp, a family-owned company that trades and distributes electronic items.
It was born as Sharp Award and kept this name for over a decade – until 1998.
It was also called Caras Award and TIM Music Award until it got its current name.
The Award announced last Tuesday (25) has nominees in 31 categories, including artists from all Brazil regions.
Chico César and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra received three nominations each.
Anitta, Baco Exu dos Blues, Criolo, Gloria Groove, and Marília Mendonça two.
Following the changes of its time this year, which marks the 30th edition, the Brazilian Music Award has replaced the singer category with the interpreter category.
