Brazil: Lula is to visit Arab Emirates on return from China

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to pay an official visit to the United Arab Emirates upon his return from his trip to China.

The Arabian government invited him on Thursday (March 16, 2023), and according to Poder360, he tends to accept the invitation.

Lula will travel to Beijing, the Chinese capital, on March 24 and have appointments in the Asian country from March 27 to 30.

He is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping (28) and attend the swearing-in ceremony of former President Dilma Rousseff as head of the New Development Bank in Shanghai (30).

The multilateral development institution is operated by the BRICS countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

On his way back to Brazil, Lula will stop in the United Arab Emirates.

The schedule of commitments is not yet defined, and he should stay for one or two days.

The entourage accompanying Lula on the trip to China will be the largest compared to the Chief Executive’s other international trips this year.

The government estimates that the number of business people on the trip may reach 200.

The presidents of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), are expected to go.

The following members of the government will also participate:

  • Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Relations;
  • Fernando Haddad, Minister of Finance;
  • Carlos Favaro, Minister of Agriculture;
  • Nísia Trindade, Minister of Health;
  • Luciana Santos, Minister of Science and Technology;
  • Márcio Elias Rosa, executive secretary of the Ministry of Industry;
  • Jorge Viana, President of Apex;
  • Celso Amorim, head of Lula’s special advisory.
