In response to pressure from US President Joe Biden to expel former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Republican Senator and former Florida Governor Rick Scott said Bolsonaro can stay “as long as he wants.”
Brazil’s former president has stayed at friends’ homes in Florida since December 31, 2022.
“Everybody wants to come to Florida; we’re a great place to live (…) Visit and stay as long as you want,” Rick Scott told EFE.
Last week, Bolsonaro requested a change in his visa status to stay another six months in the US.
According to his lawyer, the former president can request authorization valid for more than six months since it is a tourist visa.
This week, President Lula da Silva (PT) travels to the US, where he is expected to meet with President Joe Biden at the White House.
The meeting will occur next Friday (10), around 3 pm (Washington time).
At the meeting, the presidents are expected to discuss strengthening the alliance against right-wing politicians, especially Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump.
