More than 5 thousand Brazilian lawyers sign a letter against the re-election of Pacheco as Senate President

The Right-wing Lawyers Movement presented, on Wednesday 25th, a letter against Rodrigo Pacheco’s reelection to the Senate’s presidency.

The document gathers more than 5,000 signatories.

The group argues that Pacheco has failed to act in the face of judicial advances against the Legislative and Executive branches of government.

This attitude has resulted in “an evil that we believe is almost irreversible since it has allowed those who should guard the fulfillment of our Magna Carta against vilifying it daily”.

According to the lawyers, the country is living in a “state of exception” because of the inoperativeness of the current president of the Senate.

The movement claims that the Senate “loses credibility” by having Pacheco as its president since the politician has led Brazil “to a situation of legal insecurity”.

“The firm and present action of the Federal Senate is essential for the public entities of any of the Three Branches and civil society to coexist harmoniously, certain that security in State policies are legal and always emanate from the popular will, its final recipient and source of the State,” defend the lawyers.

The group asks that the voting for the presidency of the Senate occurs through a nominal open vote, “with the transparency necessary in such a crucial moment for the country’s future.
