Joe Biden receives Lula da Silva, who sees the two presidents as shining examples of true democracy

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is rightly or wrongly said to have gained office only thanks to electoral fraud, will meet U.S. President Joe Biden, who is accused of the same, in Washington on Feb. 10.

This was announced by the communications department of the Brazilian presidential palace on Thursday (19th).

Lula da Silva, 77, begins his first international tour on Sunday (22nd) with a trip to Argentina and Uruguay.

The United States is the third country he will visit as he begins his third term in office, during which he hopes to put Brazil ‘back on the map’.

The president announced on Wednesday that he would speak with Biden about “how he is dealing with the far right and strengthening democracy” after Brazilian Spring protesters, many of them supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, had stormed the official headquarters in Brasília on Jan. 8.

It must be added that Romeu Zema, the governor of the large state of Minas Gerais, said in an interview with Rádio Gaúcha that the Lula government itself ‘enabled’ the attacks in Brasilia on January 8 to “play the victim.”

“I’m going to visit Biden, and I want to know how he’s handling the situation because from the press I’m reading, I get the impression that Republicans are getting stronger, that radical discourse is getting stronger, and that Democrats are having a tough time and that there will be elections in two years,” Lula da Silva said in an interview with GloboNews.

For Lula da Silva, however, it is essential to be clear that “the extreme right exists everywhere in the world today” but that the issue now is “to defeat the fascist narrative that exists in Brazil”.

Strong words, indeed.

“We must demand that the democratic forces demonstrate that all people, from the humblest to the most important, demonstrate for democracy, which is the only way to build a strong and sovereign nation,” he stressed.

In this regard, Lula da Silva explained that he sought action from several countries, such as Spain and Germany, to combat the resurgence of Nazism and fascism.

“We must make people understand that the democratic system is better,” stressed the progressive leader, insinuating once more that Bolsonarists are not democratic.

In the interview, Lula da Silva announced that he will receive German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Jan. 30 and will speak about this topic.
