Brazilian government wants to “modernize” Armed Forces

After attrition with the military motivated by accusations of guilt in relation to the acts of vandalism practiced in Brasília, on the last 8th, the Lula da Silva government tries to approach the Armed Forces.

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and the Minister of Defence, Múcio Monteiro, are personally committed to this mission.

As a first step towards putting a stop to the relationship between the government and the Armed Forces, Lula da Silva should receive the commanders of the Army, Air Force and Navy later this week to discuss the “modernization” of the Forces.

This Tuesday (17), Rui Costa and Múcio Monteiro met with representatives of the high command to pave the way for peace.

“We talked about all the possibilities for modernizing the Armed Forces and how important this is for the president (Lula) […] Other nations in the world are carrying out PPP projects to equip their armed forces. With this, they manage to anticipate investments that, if they depended only on annual budgetary resources, would not be possible”, said Rui Costa after the meeting.
