Paraguay: Meat exports will exceed the US$2 billion barrier in 2022

The export of Paraguayan meat will exceed the barrier of US$2 billion at the end of this year, which would make it possible to meet the main objective that was set for this 2022, according to the National Service for Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa).

The president of Senacsa, José Martin, explained that, in terms of foreign currency income, to date there has been an increase of 7% in income and 2% more production for export, compared to the same period but the previous year.

Regarding the numbers at the end of October, he stated that US$1.8 billion entered the country in foreign currency, 7% higher than what was registered in the same monthly period of 2021.

NEW MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

Paraguayan meat could enter Canada, this with respect to what was mentioned by the president of Senacsa, who informed that the North American country is a good market to place the meat product from Paraguay, since it is among the 10 main importers of this segment in the world.

In line with the aforementioned, on Tuesday, November 29, began the audit of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on the meat inspection system of Paraguay, the institution that governs the production of bovine meat and by-products for export to that destination.

“If we manage to target that market, it is obviously an interesting market, if we talk about numbers we are talking about a much larger market than the Taiwanese one,” Martin compared.

He added that the Paraguayan Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and Senacsa as its autonomous entity, are “knocking on all the doors they can in order to achieve new markets, some open and others do not,” but it is important to always try, it is our obligation,” he said.

PARAGUAYAN MEAT TO THE TAIWANESE MARKET

Regarding the confirmation of the export of pork to the Taiwanese market, Martin said that it occurred after hard work on the part of the pig producers and the trust placed by them in the National Veterinary Service.

For his part, the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, announced the opening of Paraguayan pork to Taiwan, which will generate a market potential of US$250 million for the country’s productive and industrial sector.

In addition, he thanked the work that was promoted in a coordinated manner since 2018 with other State agencies so that the route can be traced and enable the Asian country’s market for Paraguayan pork meat.

“This work began in October 2018 and Taiwan asked us for many things and for this reason they spoke with the private sector and agreed and defined the steps to follow,” said the head of Senacsa.

In this sense, he said that both the private sector and the State invested a lot of financial resources to achieve this objective that Paraguay can open up to a market as large as Taiwan’s.
