Argentine President meets with Lula da Silva in São Paulo

The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, held an informal meeting yesterday, Monday, in the Brazilian city of São Paulo with the President-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with whom he shared the importance of greater regional integration.

According to a statement released by the Presidency of Argentina, Fernandez and da Silva discussed “more about the future than the past” and what they have to face in the future.

“With Lula we shared the view on the need for integration in Latin America, for democracy to be consolidated throughout the continent, for electoral processes to be duly respected and to be able to grow as a region as a whole,” said the Argentine president, who arrived Monday morning in Brazil for a brief visit.

“I did not want to be absent today, which is a day of vindication of the people of Brazil to a wonderful leader they have”, highlighted Fernandez.

According to the Argentine president, da Silva told him that “his first visit will be to Argentina”.

In addition, the Argentine head of state congratulated the people of Brazil “because they have carried out an election day with total transparency, in calm, in peace”.

“I wish for Brazil what I wish for a brother nation: that it progresses, grows, and does well. When Brazil does well, inexorably Argentina does well because we are twinned peoples”, said Fernandez.

Lula, who governed Brazil from 2003 to 2010, won the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, with 50.90 percent of the votes, against 49.10 percent for the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, who was seeking reelection.
