Lula da Silva rules out another presidential debate against Bolsonaro

On Tuesday, October 18, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign team said the leftist former president would not appear at the next televised debate against his rival and current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.

The appointment, scheduled for Friday, October 21, would be impossible for Lula da Silva to keep since he says he will be holding street events in Minas Gerais over the weekend.

At the start of the campaign for the presidential runoff, the former president convicted for corruption had made it clear that he would probably only participate in two presidential debates before the ballotage, scheduled for October 30.

Given da Silva’s non-attendance at the meeting, the SBT television network decided to use this Friday’s slot to conduct an hour-long interview with the current Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro.

In theory, the last TV debate between Lula da Silva and Bolsonaro is scheduled to be held on Friday, October 28, just two days before the elections.
