“New cargoes are expected to increase competition and put further downward pressure on fuel prices, ultimately leading to deflation and lower food prices,” the leader said.

On July 27, Eraldo Rosa, CEO of UpTime Brasil, an importer in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, told Sputnik Agency that his country would import 25,000 tons of diesel from Russia every month.

Foreign Minister Carlos Franca confirmed that the government would try to import as much diesel as possible from Russia, which he described as a reliable supplier.

Brazil is one of the world’s largest oil producers but cannot yet refine enough to meet domestic demand, which has driven up diesel and gasoline prices in recent months.
