Brazil: Campinas University shuts down 1,311 students who failed to show vaccination proof

The State University of Campinas (Unicamp) has shut down 1,311 of nearly 35,000 students for not showing proof of vaccination against covid-19.

According to the university, the exclusion occurred at the time of enrollment, at the beginning of the 2022 school year.

It was 966 undergraduate and 345 graduate students. Unicamp confirmed the information to Power360 in a note.

The university cites an internal resolution requiring students to present vaccination proof.

“It is essential to emphasize that Unicamp decisions have passed through all administrative and chamber instances composed of students, employees, and faculty,” says an excerpt from the statement.

UNIVERSITY OF SÃO PAULO

The University of São Paulo (USP) decided to erase the grades and attendance of students who did not prove vaccination against covid-19.

According to the institution, 275 students are in this situation.

“The number can still decrease because some students are presenting the proof now, after the withdrawal of the records, even though they have been vaccinated for quite some time.

“The 275 students correspond to 0.45% of the undergraduate student body, which is 60,000 students,” it said on its website on Wednesday, October 5.

“The mandatory third dose of the vaccine will apply for the second semester of 2022.

“Therefore, only students with the three vaccine doses will be able to attend classes and get grades in these subjects in the second semester of 2022,” it added.
