Brazil elections 2022: Trump supports Bolsonaro in the runoff

On Monday, October 3, former US President Donald Trump supported the current Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, in the face of re-election and showed his joy that he had reached the second round of the elections in Brazil.

“Very happy to have helped a great person and leader to get into the difficult thing of achieving, with other conservative candidates and certain difficult rules and regulations, to run for president of Brazil,” Trump has celebrated in the social network Truth Social, collected by the newspaper ‘The Hill’.

“Voters made a great decision in giving such a solid endorsement for the current brilliant and hard-working president, Jair Bolsonaro.

“Now, for the sake of Brazil and its future greatness, they have to take Jair to the finish line, against a radical left-wing socialist, on October 30. Go Bolsonaro!” added the former US president.

After the votes were counted, Trump congratulated Bolsonaro for “largely overcoming the inaccurate media polls,” referring to the polls of the Datafolha company that gave a wide distance to the former president and candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva against Bolsonaro.

These studies even predicted a victory for Lula da Silva in the first round.

However, the vote count showed that da Silva won by five percentage points, receiving 48% of the votes against Bolsonaro’s 43%. Thus, both will face a second round on October 30 since neither surpassed the required 50%.

Last Sunday, the day of the elections, Trump published a video addressed to Brazilians inviting them to vote for Bolsonaro.

“Today, you have a great opportunity to re-elect a fantastic leader and a fantastic man, one of the best presidents of any country in the world, President Bolsonaro,” said the former US president.

“He has done an absolutely incredible job in your economy, in your country. He is respected all over the world. So, I strongly support President Bolsonaro. I hope he will be your leader for a long time,” Trump continued in the video.

“He is taking your country to great heights and, again, your country is now respected worldwide because of him, so go out and vote for Bolsonaro,” Trump encouraged.
