Campaign coordinator says Lula da Silva to create a centrist government if elected

Wellington Dias, former governor of Piauí and one of the coordinators of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT, left) campaign, said that a possible Lula da Silva government would be center-based.

According to him, the PT’s participation will be lower than in 2003.

“It will be a coalition government characterized by a strong social commitment,” the former governor told the newspaper O Globo.

“Lula da Silva has the widest party spectrum in all the elections he has participated in. Certainly, the responsibility will be shared among the different parties collaborating with us.”

Lula da Silva met Monday (Sept. 19) with eight former presidential candidates, including allies and former opponents.

They all declared their support for him, seeking a third mandate in this year’s elections.

“The sign of the meeting is that it will be a coalition government, not that of one party, and a broad coalition in a time of reconstruction,” Wellington Dias said.

The following people attended the meeting:

Guilherme Boulos (Polo);
Luciana Genro (Polo);
Cristovam Buarque (citizenship);
Marina Silva (speech);
Geraldo Alckmin (PSB);
Fernando Haddad (PT);
Henrique Meirelles (União Brasil);
João Goulart Filho (PCdoB).

According to the Power360 Research Aggregator, Lula da Silva leads in the polls on voting intentions for the presidency of the Republic.

PoderData’s study, released Wednesday (Sept. 21), shows the socialist receiving 44% of the vote in the presidential election, while conservative-religious Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) comes in at 37%.

The former president has increased by one percentage point in the last week. He is seven percentage points ahead of Bolsonaro, who has remained stable over the same period.
