Brazil elections 2022: Haddad has 36%, Freitas, 22%, Garcia, 19% for São Paulo government

A Datafolha Institute survey commissioned by Globo and Folha de S.Paulo released on Thursday, September 15, reveals the voting intention indexes for the governor of São Paulo.

The Workers’ Party (PT) candidate, Fernando Haddad, maintains the lead in the dispute for the first round with 36% of voting intentions.

Tarcisio de Freitas (Republican) went from 21% to 22%, and Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), who is running for reelection, went from 15% to 19% and is technically tied with Freitas.

In the second-round simulations, the PT candidate continues to appear ahead of both Freitas and Garcia.

Haddad has 41% voting intentions in the metropolitan region of São Paulo against 31% in the state’s interior. Among Evangelicals, the preference for the PT candidate is below average (29%), and among Catholics, 38%.

In the battle between Freitas and Garcia, the current governor advanced six points among women, a segment in which he now appears numerically ahead of his opponent (21% to 16%).

Among men, the Republican candidate has a wide advantage over the PSDB candidate (29% to 17%).

Among younger voters, from 16 to 24 years old, Freitas went from 15% to 21% and is ahead of Garcia (21% to 12%). In the 45 to 49 age group, the governor gained 10 points (from 14% to 24%), and Freitas remained stable (from 23% to 22%).

In the segment of family income of two to five salaries, which represents 44% of the São Paulo population, the Republican candidate oscillated from 23% to 25%, while Garcia advanced from 14% to 21%.

Among those with incomes of up to two salaries, a group that covers 40% of the voters, Freitas oscillated from 13% to 15%, and Garcia from 15% to 19%.

In these income segments, Haddad leads with 35% and 37%, respectively.

Among voters who said they voted for Lula da Silva (PT) for president, 65% intend to vote for Haddad for governor, 14% for Garcia, and 4% for Freitas.

Of the voters who say they will vote for Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL) for president, 53% say they will vote for Freitas, 18% for Rodrigo, and 7% for Haddad.

Among those who declare to vote for Ciro Gomes (PDT), the votes for governor are divided mainly between Haddad (33%), Garcia (24%), and Freitas (13%). In Simone Tebet’s (MDB) slice of voters, 57% prefer Garcia, 17% Haddad, and 7% Freitas.
