Brazil has 35 universities among the best in the world

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the list of the best institutions of higher education in the world, 35 are Brazilian.

That is what the “Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking” shows, one of the leading international surveys of the sector, released on Wednesday, June 8.

Compared to 2021, 8 more institutions joined the list. Brazil has the highest number of representatives among Latin American countries.

Occupying the 115th place, USP (University of São Paulo) has the best position and moved up six positions compared to the last edition of the ranking.

The São Paulo institution is followed by Unicamp (State University of Campinas), in 210th position, and by UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), in 333rd.

Most of the Brazilian universities included in the list are public, but some are also private universities, such as the PUCs (Pontifical Catholic Universities) of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and Mackenzie.

MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in the United States remains the best institution of higher education in the world.

The University of Cambridge in the UK is in second place, taking over the position previously held by Oxford University, which is also British.

The third-place goes to Stanford University.

Scientific citations, the ratio of professors per student, academic reputation among employers, and the proportion of foreign professors are some criteria adopted to rank the universities.
