Brazil launches public consultation on auction to speed up renewable energy projects

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil continued its renewable growth during January, surpassing 13.5 GW of installed capacity between the distributed and centralized generation segments. And although only 116 MW came into operation during the first month of the year, the following calls for tenders to be developed could increase capacity.

Brazil’s A4/2022 New Energy Auction is scheduled to take place on May 27. With 1263 solar projects for 51,824 MW of supply, it would mean that photovoltaic capacity could be significantly expanded in the coming years because it has an operation deadline of January 1, 2026.

In addition, the Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) will open Public Consultation No. 03/2022, where it expects to receive suggestions from the public for the call for proposals mentioned above.

If successful, it would further increase the large-scale solar power capacity in the country, which already accumulates 4635 MW installed (a slight increase of 3 MW in January 2022), according to data provided by the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR).
