This is how useful the Brazilian Armed Forces have been during the last three years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Have you also wondered what the military does in peacetime and how it works for the good of society?

The Brazilian Armed Forces are the unified military organization of the Federative Republic of Brazil. It comprises the Brazilian Army (including the Brazilian Army Aviation), the Brazilian Navy (including the Brazilian Marine Corps and Brazilian Naval Aviation), and the Brazilian Air Force (including the Aerospace Operations Command).

Brazil’s Armed Forces are the second largest in the Americas, after the United States, and the largest in Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere by the level of military equipment, with 334,500 active-duty troops and officers. Brazilian soldiers were in Haiti from 2004 until 2017, leading the United Nations Stabilization Mission.

1- NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND BORDER SECURITY

Operation Ágata

  • 33.5 thousand military personnel involved ;
  •  237 thousand searches and inspections ;
  • 39.4 tons of drugs seized ;
  • + 3.6 thousand seized weapons and ammunition units.

2- FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

  • More than 34,000 military personnel involved ;
  • 914 patients transferred to other sites ;
  • 270 thousand m³ of liquid oxygen transported;
  •  More than 5 thousand flight hours transporting people and supplies;
  • More than 30 thousand tons of material transported;
  • More than 1.5 million food packages distributed.

3- ATTENTION TO INDIGENOUS POPULATIONS

  • More than 200 thousand doses of vaccine administered;
  • More than 63 thousand health consultations;
  • More than 16 humanitarian missions in different communities;
  • More than 54 thousand tons of relief goods transported;
  • 401 health professionals involved.

4- PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND FIGHT AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES.

Operation Green Brazil 2

  • R$3.35 billion (US$800 million) in fines imposed;
  • 506.1 thousand cubic meters of confiscated wood;
  • more than 105,000 inspections, maritime and land patrols, inspections, and searches conducted.

Operation Samaúma

  • more than R$270 million in fines imposed ;
  • 191 preventive and repressive actions;
  • more than 17 thousand hectares embargoed.
