Uruguayan exports maintain strong dynamism, growing 31% in January

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Requests for exports of goods in January -including free trade zones- totaled US$883 million, which implied a 31% growth in year-on-year terms, reported Uruguay XXI. In 2021, foreign sales reached a record US$11.6 billion after expanding 43% in the year-on-year comparison, so the dynamism of foreign trade was maintained at the beginning of this year.

Exports of beverage concentrate, beef, electric power, vehicles, and meat by-products were the products with the highest positive impact that explained the monthly variation in the first month of 2022. Meanwhile, dairy products, live cattle, and rice had a negative impact in January.

Beef was once again the main export item at the beginning of the year, totaling US$207 million in January, which reflects an increase of 59% in the year-on-year comparison. Thus, according to Uruguay XXI, foreign beef sales continue the growing trend recorded in 2021.
