Brazilian population reached 213.3 million people in July 2021 – IBGE estimate

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL –  The Brazilian population reached 213.3 million people on July 1, 2021, according to an estimate by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Last year, Brazil had 211.7 million inhabitants.

The data was published in today’s edition (27) of the Federal Gazette. The estimated population growth from 2020 to 2021 was 0.74%, according to IBGE. The definitive numbers will only appear in 2022, after the official Census is taken – it was postponed from last year because of federal budget cuts.

The estimate shows that the most populous states are: São Paulo (46.65 million), Minas Gerais (21.41 million), Rio de Janeiro (17.46 million), and Bahia (14.98 million).

The country has three states with fewer than 1 million inhabitants: Roraima (652,700), Amapá (877,600), and Acre (906,900).
