Brazil registers 32,443 new cases and 975 Covid deaths (August 11)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Wednesday reported 975 new deaths as a result of Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 565,748, the Health Ministry said.

There were also 32,443 new coronavirus cases, with the total number of infections in the country advancing to 20,245,085, the folder added.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fifth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Paraguay, Colombia, Cuba, and Argentina. Worldwide, it ranks 16th.

The country has seen a considerable reduction in pandemic numbers in recent weeks, while numbers in neighboring Argentina are rising again.

In a bulletin published on Wednesday, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) highlighted that, for the first time since October 2020, Brazil has no states with Covid-19 ICU bed occupancy rates for adults in SUS equal to or higher than 80%.

Brazil has vaccinated 46.6 million people with the two doses or single-dose immunization, equivalent to 29.5% of the adult population. In comparison, according to data from the Ministry of Health, 108.8 million people (68.8% of the population) received the first dose.
