Brazil has 40,716 new cases and 1,175 Covid deaths (August 4)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Wednesday reported 1,175 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 559,607, the Health Ministry said.

There were also 40,716 new cases of coronavirus reported, bringing the total of confirmed infections in the country to 20,026,533.

The federal government reports 18,800,884 people as “recovered” from Covid-19 and 666,042 patients still in follow-up.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks sixth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Cuba, and Argentina. Worldwide, it ranks 16th.

The country has seen a considerable reduction in pandemic numbers in recent weeks.
