Colombia approaches 120,000 Covid-19 deaths

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombia added 9,364 new infections on Wednesday (28), bringing the total number of infections to 4,757,139 and 319 deaths, bringing the country closer to 120,000 deaths with 119,801, according to the Ministry of Health.

The number of active cases continued to decrease. It stood at 78,461, equivalent to 1.64% of the total number of infections reported in the country since the first infection was reported on March 6, 2020.

VACCINATION PROGRESSES

The National Vaccination Plan started last February 17, and up to yesterday, 25,902,416 doses of vaccines from Pfizer, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Janssen had been applied.

Likewise, the country started to apply this Wednesday the 3.5 million Moderna vaccines donated by the United States Government.

In total, 11,605,364 people have already received the full schedule, that is, around 23% of the population.

On the other hand, the Government received Wednesday 443,430 vaccines from Pfizer, destined for second doses. “I invite all citizens to go to the vaccination points to have this second dose, which is vital to ensure greater immunity,” said the Deputy Minister of Health, Luis Alexander Moscoso.

The country has received 35,814,754 doses from all laboratories, including 2.1 million acquired by the private sector and six million donated by the United States.

FIGURES OF THE DAY

Of the deaths reported today, of which 280 died in previous days, the highest number was in Bogota with 57, followed by the departments of Antioquia and Valle del Cauca (46); Norte de Santander (17); Cordoba and Santander (15), and Cundinamarca and Tolima (14).

In terms of infections, the highest numbers were in the capital (1,972), Antioquia (1,390), Valle del Cauca (960), and Santander (671).

The regions with the highest number of infections continue to be Bogotá (1,405,585), Antioquia (709,939), Valle del Cauca (380,498), Atlántico (306,597) and Cundinamarca (255,169).

Today, 65,169 samples were processed in Colombia, 31,806 of which were PCR samples and 33,363 antigen samples, for a total of 22.28 million tests performed.
