Brazil records 1,548 new Covid deaths; total reaches 538,942 (July 15)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Thursday reported 1,548 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 538,942, the Health Ministry said.

There were also 52,789 new cases of coronavirus, with the total number of infections in the country advancing to 19,262,518, the folder added.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fourth in Latin America in terms of deaths per million in the last seven days, and is better positioned than Colombia, Paraguay and Argentina.

In terms of total deaths per million, Brazil ranks among the ten most affected nations, such as Peru, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, and other European countries.

Data published the day before by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), pointed out that the indicators of the epidemic in Brazil showed a downward trend for the third week in a row.

The Brazilian state most affected by Covid-19 in absolute terms, São Paulo reached on Thursday the marks of 3,908,279 cases and 133,901 deaths.

The federal government reports 17,917,189 people as having recovered from Covid-19 and 806,387 patients in follow-up.
