The centers will be built in the 23 provinces and in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, according to the CABEI press office in Tegucigalpa.

It noted that the centers are designed to provide facilities for training, prevention and promotion of gender equality, as well as to house women affected by gender-based violence and their children.

“The fight against gender-based violence is a social issue that calls for the commitment of all sectors in our countries and this issue occupies an important space in our institutional strategy. Our bank will continue to support such initiatives,” said CABEI Executive President Dante Mossi.

The initiative is promoted by the Argentine Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, with the support of the Ministry of Public Works and the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Argentine Presidency.

CABEI Director for Argentina and Colombia, Maximiliano Alonso, assured that the “commitment and sensitivity” of the financial institution are focused on “changing the reality of thousands of women and also of LGBTIQ+ people in Latin America who suffer all kinds of violence.”

“We must work together to put an end to this scourge,” Alonso stressed, according to CABEI, which has offices throughout the region.

The project’s total amount reaches US$55.6 million and is part of CABEI’s portfolio of operations in Argentina, covering areas such as human development and social infrastructure and services for competitiveness.

The financial institution stated that its 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy establishes gender equity as a cross-cutting issue in order to promote initiatives that foster equal opportunities and economic and social conditions among the population.

This year almost 70% of all feminicides in Argentina have been linked to security forces. Either they were perpetrated by law enforcement personnel (17%), the perpetrator had been denounced (29%), or because the perpetrator had already been under a restraining order (19%), said the Argentine Minister of the Interior Eduardo De Petro, during the presentation of these centers.
