São Paulo Mayoral Candidate Guilherme Boulos Tests Positive for Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The PSOL (Socialism and Liberty Party) candidate for the São Paulo City Hall, Guilherme Boulos, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus on Friday, November 26th, according to his press office.

Boulos has no symptoms and conducted election campaigns until this Friday. The candidate decided to take the test after having had contact with Federal Deputy Sâmia Bonfim (PSOL), who was diagnosed with the disease a week ago.

Because of quarantine, the candidate was not able to participate in the scheduled debate with his opponent Bruno Covas, nor will he be able to vote on Sunday.

Boulos’ note:

“We report that the candidate Guilherme Boulos tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday afternoon, even though he had no symptoms of the disease.

On Monday, the campaign was told that PSOL Deputy Sâmia Bonfim, who was campaigning last Friday, had tested positive. At the meeting, Boulos and Sâmia followed all the sanitary measures recommended, such as the wearing of masks and hand sanitizer.

Following the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, Guilherme Boulos suspended street activities, dedicated himself to agendas in reserved places and with restricted public, constantly safeguarding the sanitary recommendations, and performed the RT-PCR test.

Given the positive result, Guilherme Boulos will comply with the quarantine protocol for the required period. The full team working on the campaign, which has close contact with the candidate, will be tested as of now.

The candidate stresses the concern he has been stating in recent days regarding the signs of a second wave of the pandemic, so far neglected by the state and municipal governments, responsible for implementing measures.

The campaign will remain active in this final stretch to introduce the project of change that São Paulo needs and hope to emerge in victory next Sunday.”

“As already reported, I tested positive for Covid-19, despite having no symptoms, and I’m in isolation. We have already asked Globo for a virtual debate. I ask two things: take care and turn votes until Sunday. The turnaround depends on each one of us!”
