Detective Testifies “There Was Intercourse Between Everyone” in Flordelis’ Family

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Detective Barbara Lomba, in charge of the first stage of investigations into the death of Pastor Anderson do Carmo, said during a hearing on Friday that there was sexual intercourse between several members of the home of Federal Deputy Flordelis dos Santos. She said that sex occurred between the first members of the house at the time they lived in the Jacarezinho favela, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

“There was intercourse between everyone there. Flordelis didn’t have a relationship only with Anderson and Anderson didn’t have a relationship only with her (Flordelis),” said the delegate, describing aspects about the family that drew her attention when she was investigating the murder.

Barbara was the second witness for the prosecution to be heard at the trial in which Flordelis is accused of soliciting her husband’s murder. Before her, Detective Allan Duarte gave his testimony, in charge of the second stage of the investigation.

The detective described in detail how the relationship between family members occurred. Barbara said she heard informal reports from Flávio dos Santos, Flordelis’ biological son, about the ongoing relations within the house. “Flávio said he was outraged by the relations he saw (in the house)”, said Barbara.

The detective added that the relations within Flordelis’ family “caused astonishment”. “Relations were based on lies. A family relationship logic based on a strategy and a front had to be set up. Many things that occurred in the house could not be shown,” he described.

The detective said that Flordelis “elected” Anderson as her husband because he was the best prepared for the job. The pastor came to Flordelis’ house as a teenager. “I won’t say there was no marriage, but it was not what was preached in church,” she said.

Barbara Lomba also emphasized the deputy’s influence within the family and said that “no one would do what they did without Flordelis’ knowledge”. Detective Allan Duarte made similar statements to Barbara’s. “They (Flordelis and Anderson) posed as a loving couple for society, but in the dark, it was totally different,” he said.

Flordelis reached the courthouse at around 1:45 PM, 45 minutes late. Upon entry, the lawmaker and her attorney were reprimanded by the judge in the case, Nearis dos Santos Carvalho Arce, of the 3rd Criminal Court of Niterói.

As soon as she walked in, Flordelis sat in the dock. The judge then asked the other defendants – the deputy’s seven children and a granddaughter – to also come inside the courtroom. On seeing her relatives, Flordelis began to cry.

At the start of the hearing, an unusual situation occurred: the judge herself asked that as the family members’ names were mentioned in the hearing, they should introduce themselves. “We don’t know who is who,” said the magistrate.

During the hearing, Flordelis kept shaking her head negatively before the witnesses’ reports. Only very few times did she agree with what was said. The deputy attended the session wearing a long colored dress that concealed the electronic anklet she has been wearing since last month.

Flordelis is being monitored by the device, as she can not be arrested because of her parliamentary immunity.
