In his speech, Wang stressed Beijing’s opposition “to the United States’ efforts to use counter-terrorism to impose sanctions and continue political oppression against Cuba”.

Once it is implemented, this will be Cuba’s largest foreign economic aid program since the end of the Soviet Union, reported Prensa Latina. Although no figures have been disclosed, cooperation has been announced for industrial and technological development, in areas such as health and infrastructure.

The Chinese diplomat also stressed Cuba’s tremendous aid to China between January and March, when the country was the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“By doing so, China intends to prove its gratitude to a country that was on our side and was instrumental in enabling us to accomplish our results,” he acknowledged.

For his part, Rodríguez recalled that the agreement comes just as the two countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations, and emphasized the willingness to deepen mutual cooperation in several sectors.

“In our talks, we found many aspects in which we can mutually cooperate, with benefits for both, which gives us great hope that this agreement will produce results,” said the Cuban Chancellor.
