RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Whether you like it or not, Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval is one of the greatest shows in the world.
During the days of revelry, millions of tourists visit the Marvelous City for the enchantment of the Samba schools parade in the Marquês de Sapucaí and/or to have fun in the traditional street blocks. However, for the second consecutive year, the city of Rio failed to top the list in tourists’ preferences when it comes to enjoying the greatest popular party on the planet.
According to a survey by ‘Decolar’ travel company, Rio has been outperformed by the city of São Paulo this year as the most sought-after destination by tourists. Last Carnaval, the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro was behind the city of Salvador, in Bahia.
The survey is significant since Rio de Janeiro has always been ranked, even with a certain slack, as the most desired destination for tourists from Brazilian cities during Carnaval.
However, given the many uncertainties surrounding Carnaval in Rio this year, it seems that revelers have opted for the certainty of being able to enjoy their party days to the fullest in other cities.
The ‘Decolar’ report also points out that both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo rank first place for concentrating the parades of the major sambas schools and street blocks, in addition to a varied program.
Typically, in the route of the Brazilians’ revelry, there are also five Northeastern capitals like Salvador, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, and Recife, which attract tourists to the traditional “electric trios” (sound trucks), as well as to the cultural and tourist attractions.
The survey by the travel platform further shows the favorite destinations for those who want to escape the confetti and streamers. Porto Alegre and Foz do Iguaçu, both in the southern region of the country, are preferred by those who want to rest during the long holiday.
