Boycotted by Radio Stations, Pabllo Vittar Now Also Censored on YouTube

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After being boycotted by several radio stations throughout Brazil that decided not to play Pabllo Vittar‘s songs – some even with homophobic arguments – now the drag queen is also being censored on YouTube.

The video platform blocked the video clip of ‘Parabéns’, a partnership between Vittar and Psirico, leaving it visible only to those over 18 years of age. Generally, the age restriction is placed on videos with explicit content, very sensual scenes, or swearing.

After the YouTube restriction, many internet users and the artist herself regretted the situation: “Keep watching the ‘Parabéns’ video clip and listening [to the songs] on Vittarlovers platforms! We won’t accept this selective censorship,” Pabllo Vittar fired.

However, with the repercussion of the case, the press indicated that the decision to censor the video came from a request by the National Council of Advertising Self-regulation (CONAR), which alleged that Vittar’s video clip advertises an alcoholic beverage.

After the controversy, Internet users decided to create a petition to ask YouTube and CONAR for an explanation: “The ‘Parabéns’ video clip, released by Brazilian singer and drag queen Pabllo Vittar, is being persecuted by CONAR. There are several videos of other artists, mostly heterosexual, that contain advertising of alcoholic beverages (distillate) and that were not notified by CONAR. We demand, through this petition, the removal of the restriction on Pabllo Vittar’s hit, as the action is visibly homophobic. Otherwise, let the restriction be APPLIED TO ALL!”, informed a request on the Avaaz platform.

On the other hand, even with all the boycott on radio stations, TV, and digital platforms, Pabllo Vittar continues to be one of the most listened to and watched artists in Brazil, with worldwide repercussions.
