PSL Obstructs Bolsonaro’s Measure in Chamber of Deputies

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to Deputy Waldir, the motive behind the obstruction was to prevent the party’s legislators, from being absent, since they were gathered in the party’s leadership.

His allies, however, concede that there is a component of retaliation against the government. The MP deals with the administrative restructuring of the Cabinet and the Government Secretariat. If it is not voted on by Thursday, it expires.

The measure shifts the political structure of the Cabinet, led by Minister Onyx Lorenzoni, to the Government Secretariat (SEGOV), headed by General Luiz Eduardo Ramos.

It also determines that the Sub-Chief for Legal Affairs leave the portfolio and become part of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.

In plenary, a number of PSL deputies were perplexed. In addition to the party of President Jair Bolsonaro, the PT, PSB, PDT, PSOL, and PCdoB obstructed the MP.

“The PSL directs obstruction,” said Waldir, who later patted the government leader, Major Vitor Hugo, on the back.

An ally of PSL national president Luciano Bivar, Waldir told O Globo column on Tuesday that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and his former advisor, Fabrício Queiroz, “should be prepared to welcome the Federal Police soon”.

Deputy Filipe Barros, who backs Bolsonaro and stands against measures adopted by Bivar, criticized Waldir’s attitude. Among PSL dissidents, the obstruction was construed as a message to the government.

“This kind of thing is childish, it’s ridiculous. Typical center party,” he said.

Bibo Nunes, another deputy critical of Bivar, said the obstruction was a reprisal of Jair Bolsonaro’s rally against the party’s president.

“This is a reprisal and demonstrates these people’s support for the president”.
