Rock in Rio: Labor Inspection Finds Workers Sleeping Under Sunset Stage

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – An inspection by the Regional Labor Office in Rio de Janeiro found workers sleeping under the Sunset Stage of Rock in Rio this Saturday morning, October 5th.

The Entreartes employees work carrying equipment and musical instruments among the event’s attractions.

On Friday, inspectors had already found irregularities in the control of workers’ hours. According to inspectors heard by G1 newssite, after 10:30 PM there were no more markings on the clock, noting that the loaders’ work occurred in the early hours and that there were time shifts, with some workers operating on two workdays running.

“The loaders’ work is exhausting, involving weight and displacement of the equipment. Inadequate control of working hours generates losses and may increase the risk of accidents,” said Olivar Brandão, labor inspector and coordinator of labor inspection at major events.

Together with the Labor Prosecutor’s Office, a Conduct Adjustment Agreement was signed with the Regional Labor Prosecutor’s Office of the 1st Region.

The aim is to control workers’ schedules, prevent double shifts and also to ensure that there is overnight accommodation for employees inside Rock in Rio.

Also on Saturday, inspectors monitored medical assistance to a worker who had his foot injured by heavy equipment. He said he had been working since 5 PM on Friday.
