Snubbed Two Years ago, Anitta is International Star at Rock in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Anitta had already shown what she is capable of with an impeccable show a little over a year ago, at Rock in Rio Lisboa.

In the festival’s Portuguese version, the Brazilian charmed the Europeans with whimsical outfits (she even paid tribute to Carmen Miranda) and a repertoire ranging from MPB to funk.

The show at Rock in Rio Lisboa was only further evidence of Anitta’s importance and a kind of apology from the Medina family, who did not believe in the singer’s strength at the time to play at their festival.

After that snub, Anitta would be invited to sing with Madonna on her new album. Coincidentally (or not), the queen of pop was an illustrious Lisbon resident at the time when the Brazilian singer performed at Rock in Rio.

The partnership with Madonna was certainly a milestone in her career, but Anitta doesn’t sleep. From the controversy with Rock in Rio until now, she has finalized the Check Matte project, exploded with Vai Malandra, released an EP (Solo), an album (Kisses) and dozens of partnerships with national and international artists, such as Kevinho and Pharrell Williams.

She was also the first Brazilian to sing at Tomorrowland Belgium and has a partnership with Cardi B, the greatest rising rapper of our time.

At Rock in Rio 2019, Anitta is expected to release the already confirmed song she recorded with Will.i.am, from Black Eyed Peas, a band playing on the same night and stage. And this is just the beginning of the story.

The highlight that funk will gain in this edition of the festival, with artists at Espaço Favela, New Dance Order and a show celebrating 30 years of the rhythm at Sunset Stage is yet another reflection of Anitta’s presence.

After being one of the most talked-about subjects of the previous Rock in Rio, due to her absence and being represented by Pabllo Vittar, who stirred up the festival with Sua Cara, then recently launched a partnership with Major Lazer, and promised to wiggle with Fergie “on a better opportunity”, Anitta is in the 2019 edition, parading on a red carpet.

In the words of Roberto Medina himself, president of the festival, “Anitta will be the next Ivete [Sangalo],” that is, a guaranteed presence in all editions.

Unless, that is, she follows what she revealed in the biography written by Léo Dias, a UOL columnist, and retires at the age of 30. Still, we will see her in at least two more editions of Rock in Rio.
