President Speaks With Flávio Bolsonaro’s Lawyer in Unscheduled Meeting

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) met this Saturday, September 21st, at the Palácio da Alvorada, Frederick Wassef, lawyer and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro‘s (PSL-RJ) defense in the case of suspicious transactions flagged by the COAF.

The meeting had not been scheduled in Bolsonaro’s public agenda. Wassef arrived at the official residence of the Presidency around 11:30 AM and left the place after 2:00 PM.

Wanted, the Palácio do Planalto and Flávio Bolsonaro’s advice did not disclose the subject of the meeting.

In an interview with Estado in early September, Wassef said that there is “a campaign” underway “to hurt the President”. “It’s an ongoing campaign and it started even before Jair Bolsonaro took office,” Wassef said.

Agenda

Chamber President Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ) visited Bolsonaro at the Palácio da Alvorada yesterday morning. Maia remained on site for less than an hour and discussed matters such as the Chamber’s voting agenda for next week with the president, according to the deputy’s advice.

On the eve of Bolsonaro’s trip to New York, where he will speak at the opening of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo, and the special advisor to the Presidency for international affairs, Filipe Martins, were also at the Alvorada this Saturday, September 21st.

On Friday, Bolsonaro said he would attend a dinner with the American president Donald Trump. He further said he will not react, in his speech at the UN, to funds from investors who called for “urgent action” to contain the “devastating fires” in the Amazon.

In addition, Ricardo Camarinha, the President’s physician, visited the president at his official residence. He has been monitoring Bolsonaro in recent days to assess his recovery after the surgery he has undergone on September 8th.

The president’s delegation will leave Brasília on Monday morning, September 23rd. Bolsonaro is expected to speak at the opening of the UN General Assembly on September 24th. His return to Brazil is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 25th.
