Business Confidence Index Drops 0.1 Points in August

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Business Confidence Index (ICE), measured by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), fell 0.1 points from July to August 2019 to 93.9 points, on a scale of zero to 200. The indicator consolidates the confidence indices of the four sectors of the economy: industry, services, trade, and construction.

The Current Situation Index which measures business confidence at the present time, rose 1.1 points in August and reached 91.3 points, the highest level since February 2019 (91.4 points).

The Expectations Index, which measures business confidence in the coming months, retreated 0.8 points to 99.8 points, after advancing in the previous four months.

The confidence of service businessmen retreated in August (-1.1 point). The others were up: industry (0.8 points), trade (3.2 points), and construction (2.2 points).

Also in August, confidence advanced in 55% of the 49 segments that make up the indicator. In the previous month, the increase in confidence had reached 67% of those segments.
