Left-Wing Frente Amplio Leads in Uruguay Poll

A new poll from Cifra indicates Frente Amplio as the front-runner for Uruguay’s presidential elections on October 27.

The survey shows that 47% of participants prefer Frente Amplio, while 31% support the incumbent National Party (PN).

Another 11% are in favor of different coalition parties, and 11% remain undecided.

Frente Amplio is a progressive political coalition in Uruguay known for its left-wing policies and significant impact on the country’s social and economic landscape.

Since the previous poll in October, Frente Amplio has increased its support by 3%, moving up from 44%. The PN’s backing has remained consistent at 31%.

The support for other coalition members has increased by 1%, now at 11%. Meanwhile, the portion of undecided voters has decreased by 4%, down to 11%.

This survey was conducted by Cifra between February 1 and 17, indicating a notable shift in political leanings.

Frente Amplio, which governed from 2005 to 2015, is witnessing a resurgence in popularity.

This significant development mirrors the public’s changing attitudes as the election approaches.

The constitution bars Uruguay’s 50-year-old president, Lacalle Pou of the PN, from immediate reelection, with his term concluding in March 2025.

Both the ruling coalition and Frente Amplio will choose their presidential contenders in the internal elections set for June 30.

These nominations are pivotal as they will define the contours of the electoral contest and set the course for Uruguay’s political future.

This selection process underscores the dynamic nature of democracy, offering voters distinct options come October.
