State Police Officer Shot Dead While Trying to Prevent Burglary in São Paulo

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – State Police (PM) officer Rodrigo Rosman Carvalho died after being shot at Forte do Leme Avenue, in São Mateus, on the east side of the capital, around 1:17 PM on Tuesday, December 31st.

The military police officer was off duty when he saw two men trying to rob a pedestrian. One of the suspects was rescued and the other escaped after the exchange of gunfire.

According to the State Police, two men tried to rob a pedestrian in the region. The state police officer, who was off duty at the time, witnessed the event and intervened. There was an exchange of gunfire, and the police officer and one of the criminals were shot; the accomplice ran away.

An Eagle helicopter, from the State Police Airborne Group, was called in to rescue the victim, but he was found dead at the scene. The wounded criminal was detained and sent to the Nardini Hospital Emergency Room.
